Google Heart shows Jericoacoara and National Park zone. Also is visible the large sunset dune which is adjacent to the main village.

In 1984 the region was transformed into Environmental Protection Area (APA), preserving an area of 200 square kilometers. From 2002 the IBAMA together with State Government of Ceara and Jijoca Jericoacoara decided to designate this area as National Park thus achieving the maximum status in terms of protection environment.
